The CD5004 is an over achiever. It plays CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs – even those containing MP3 and WMA music files. Thoughtful for a basic CD player whose lot in life is to spin silver discs and sound better than any other CD player under $500.
For those of you who like the technical details, Marantz uses a uses a killer DAC, the Cirrus Logic CS4392, in the CD5004. This chipset is specifically designed for error-free, extremely high resolution decoding of all your digital files. Once the digital data has been decoded, Marantz turns the music over to their patented HDAM (HyperDynamic Amplifier Module) SA2 high grade audio circuit. This proprietary audio amplifier was designed for Marantz's high-dollar reference series, and it really helps distance the CD5004 from other budget CD players.
Headphone listeners aren't left out either! The CD5004 features a completely independent audio buffer amplifier for the headphone output, with its own front panel level control.
The CD5004 has a few thoughtful features:
Full-featured remote control
Pitch Control - +/- 12% nice when learning a new song or lets you hit the high notes.
Quick replay - push once and relive the last 10 seconds, twice for 20 seconds and so on up to 60 seconds. Nice to know Marantz also does math like the rest of us.
Multiple repeat - Random, Program, Edit play modes - again, nice when you need to go over something or drill the newest song into your head.
