The M-CR603 is one mean Swiss Army Knife of a component. This usually rings warning bells with us because that term often means the product in question does a lot, but isn't particularly good at anything…sure you can open a bottle, but you're gonna get cut in the process. Thankfully, this isn't the case when you're talking about the M-CR603, it's pretty amazing. The M-CR603 is what we refer to as a disc-ceiver, a disc player and receiver all in one box. It also has some very special networking features called AirTunes (optional $49.99) and DLNA. We think it might be the coolest piece of Marantz hi-fi on earth. Let us tell you why:
Compact - The M-CR603 is only 11" wide and 4" tall because it doesn't need to be any bigger. Most hi-fi receivers are 17" wide and over a foot deep! Stack a CD player on top, and you have a pile of gear. Not with the M-CR603
Flexible Power - 4 x 25 watt or 2 x 50 watt amplifier. Bi-amp your speakers or run speaker in the bedroom and speakers on your bedroom patio or bedroom potty room.
Internet Radio - Napster, Pandora, Rhaphsody all at your fingertips with a 50 "favorites" memory means you have just the right music at the right time…if you know what we mean…cue Barry White Radio.
CD Player - Plays all shiny silver discs except DVD's. You know what? They sound killer and there are about 2 ka-zillion of them on earth - still.
Optional AirTunes - Pop open your iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and select M-CR603. Hit play, the M-CR603 wakes up and slowly ramps up the volume to your iTunes music. (requires that your iDevice and M-CR603 are connected to the same local area network). This costs an extra $49.99 from Marantz.
Remote Control App - Free download for your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad is the Marantz "Wizz App" remote control app. Switch Internet radio channels, skip that track on the cd player, dial up the World Champion Giants on the AM radio - anywhere from within your home wireless network reach, including the patio or bathtub.
Subwoofer out - Oh snap. Most stereo receivers don't have this. The M-CR603 does.
Optical Digital Input - Hook up that BluRay player for the complete bedroom or den or ultimate college dorm system.
Front Panel USB - Plug in your USB drive full of MP3 files, iPod or iPhone and use it as a music server!
Sleep Timer - Let Jack Johnson sing you a lullabye
