The PM-8004 is the perfect component to anchor a high quality stereo system. While it's not showy, this 70-watt per channel integrated amplifier includes an array of very useful features without sacrificing sound quality.
Much like its more expensive brethren in Marantz's Reference series the PM-8004's preamplifier stage features the exclusive HDAM3 amplifier modules and a very robust power supply featuring custom audio-grade capacitors and a large toroidal power transformer. These high performance touches mean that this is an amplifier designed to handle even difficult speakers with ease and grace.
The PM8004 is truly a music lover's amplifier. Unlike many audiophile designs that have given up on tone controls, the PM-8004 has a very unique 3-band "Tri Tone" equalizer that allows you to tailor the sound to you liking…especially useful when playing back lower quality MP3 files and internet radio stations. When you're playing the good stuff and don't need tone controls, a "Source Direct" switch bypasses them for the shortest signal path and best possible performance.
If you're a vinyl lover, you'll be happy to know that the PM8004 includes a high performance phono stage right out of the $4000 Reference Series PM-11S2. Don't believe us? Check out the Marantz's instruction manual!
Custom speaker terminals allow for connection of both "A" and "B" speakers, even with high performance speaker cables. For those of you looking to play music in two rooms at once, both A and B speakers can be used simultaneously.
Need more power? The PM-8004 has a set of preamp outputs, so you can easily add a large two channel amplifier.
There's even a Power Amp Direct switch which allows you to use the PM8004 to drive the main Left and Right speakers in your surround sound system! Simply connect your surround receiver's front-channel preamp outputs to the "Power Amp Direct" inputs on the PM8004 and you've got a no-compromise system for home theater AND stereo.
