Product Information

Introducing SuperPower.  The SuperPower is a powerful self-amplified, mini-speaker. Each speaker has it’s own internal, 90-watt amplifier and can be connected directly to computers, smart-phones, iPods, iPads, tablets, video game consoles, electronic music instruments, TV’s, projectors, stereo and home theater receivers.  The list goes on and on.  In fact, since it’s self-contained, SuperPower can replace (and out perform) most traditional stereo systems.

The SuperPower’s DNA originates from two of NHT’s most beloved speakers – the SuperZero 2.0 and the NHT Professional M-00 active mini-monitor.  Like its predecessors SuperPower uses the time-tested NHT 2-way mini-speaker “formula” a 4.5” woofer and 1” silk dome tweeter – both are mounted in a sealed box – called “acoustic suspension”.  Acoustic suspension systems use the air trapped inside (natures most perfect spring) to dynamically control and damp the woofers movement.  It is the reason SuperPower can produce deep, tight, clean bass and exceptional midrange articulation, which all NHT’s speakers are noted for.

The other reason for SuperPower’s extreme performance is a cutting-edge 90-watt amplifier. An elegant design, the SuperPower’s amplifier is one of the most powerful amplifiers ever installed into a mini speaker, it is also energy efficient, converting over 90% of the incoming electricity to pure, low-distortion output power. In standby mode – a completely automatic feature – SuperPower’s amplifier uses less electricity than a D-cell battery and meets Energy Star efficiency standards. A soft glow from the front panel 3-color LED behind the grill keeps you posted of the amplifier’s state of mind – standby, play or fault. NHT engineers squeezed even more sonic goodness from SuperPower by the addition of an exclusive sound shaping filter to squeeze the last bit of bass extension and power handling from the speaker.

SuperPower has one control – a power switch located on the rear panel – that’s it! This technology comes together and is assembled in NHT California’s by NHT’s production team.

Optional Subwoofer: Yes, there is a matching subwoofer and it’s available right now. It’s called the Super 8 to add even more bass and dynamics to your SuperPower speakers. It’s really compact at only 11” cubed and has a self powered wireless option as well. It takes your sound from serious to somewhere just past ridiculous.

Optional DeskStand: Plopping your speakers in a desktop or shelf is not doing yourself or your SuperPower speakers any justice. Placing them on the optional 10 GA solid steel DeskStand will open up the midrange vocals and make the soundfield larger and more realistic. We know this from our recording studio experience and it’s true in your home or office or on your bookshelf.

Please note the DeskStand shown in the images above with the SuperPower speakers is an optional accessory - as such, it is not included.

Little with lots of power

I just got them. Hooked up with ipod, asus transformer prime, Nokia n8, and finally computer. Piano black glossy is just plain sexy. They are also very good performing, better than my soundscience Rockus 2.1 they replace. Seems to provide more detail on vocals, not as boomy, however more accurate. Very happy I ordered them.

Big sound - Small system

I cannot believe this small system has such incredibly vibrant sound! I have my Macbook wirelessly sending music files (Mp3 and Lossless) to an Apple Airport Express router. The router is attached with an optical cable to an Audioengine D1 DAC where the digital signal is converted to analog. The DAC is attached to the SuperPower's on their metal stands. The sound is clear, detailed, loud and makes me forget the music is coming from speakers. It sounds open and alive. I am really excited about listening to my music again. I was using a pair of rear ported Audioengine A2 speakers and I didn't get anywhere near the same excitement from the music. I contemplated adding a subwoofer but am now rethinking if this is really necessary. They are that good!

Exactly what I was looking for...

This week I was able to setup my SupwerPower speakers. Glad to say that these are gems. Usually "convenience" and "performance" rarely coincide. But in this case they certainly do. Using them for my smaller applications with portability in mind. For that, they are a godsend. To have amplified versions of my favorite SuperZeros is a beautiful thing. And the kicker: subwoofer optional. I had forgotten just how stellar these can sound by themselves. What is not present in low end "boom" is more than made up for in clarity. Well done NHT!

Truly outstanding accomplishment by NHT

The SuperPowers have spent two weeks in my daughter's room, replacing a pair of 1996-vintage SuperOnes -- which still function perfectly -- because she inherited a mini-system of comparable age with a CD changer and sleep timer, and the amp failed. They have been exemplary performers, with better imaging than the old SuperOnes, and only a slight drop-off in in-room bass performance. Although my daughter is very young, and the range of music she listens to is not on any adult's playlist, children's music makes an excellent test source, because it is usually recorded without heavy radio-oriented dynamic compression. It also tends to come with dramatically exaggerated panning for distinct positioning of characters, which makes for a good test of image depth and width. So with the caveat that Elmo's Song and the oeuvre of The Wiggles are not likely to be your favorites, I can truthfully report that they sound as good through the SuperPowers as they do on my 20x more expensive Revel F52s. This actually helps a lot when your child is (unknowingly) an intensely critical listener, and insists on hearing her music through a full-range system rather than settling for a portable iPhone speaker dock. You'd be surprised how upset they can get when they feel sure something is missing, even if they can't articulate what -- I have often been told "no, on TV!" (meaning the Revels) when trying to play music through portable gear. That I never get this complaint with the SuperPowers testifies to their excellence. I did not buy the matching stands initially, as the prior speakers were mounted on 30" floor stands. They do strongly benefit from stands, as compared to placing them directly on a shelf -- I tried them mounted next to the mini-system, and immediately noticed the wholly predictable inaccurate mid-bass bump and muddying of the stereo image. As they are not secure on stands designed for much larger speakers, I will definitely be adding NHT's DeskStands to move them onto the shelf again. Although it is a very secondary issue for most purchasers, I should also mention that having self-powered speakers is a tremendous safety benefit for my setup. The installation now has no child-reachable cables, as everything not flush with the wall is at speaker height. I expect dog owners would also find this very helpful. All told, the SuperPowers are an extraordinary value, with both finish and sound quality well above what many brands with retail markups offer even at higher prices. The fact that NHT can deliver such a solid product even with the higher cost of final assembly that comes from doing it in the USA makes them closer to a miracle.
