SuperZero 2.0 Mini Monitor

Do you remember what you were doing in 1994? Still reeling over Kurt Cobain's untimely death? Bummed out about the cancellation of the World Series due to the player's strike? Checking out the first White House website? 

Whatever it was, it wasn't as fun as what we were doing: shipping one of the best mini-speakers the world has ever seen, the Super Zero. Called "...not just great for the money, but great period." ;and hailed as "a $250 speaker that compares with high-end speakers costing $3000…" by Corey Greenberg in the January 1994 issue of Stereophile, the Super Zero established NHT as a force in the world of high-value, high-performance audio.

And now it's back.

The new NHT SuperZero 2.0 is a true-high end mini-monitor that builds on the merits of it's predecessor and dare we say, improves upon them. Transparency, detail, "walk-around the stage" realism, it's all there, and so much more. 

At just 9" Tall x 5" Wide x 5.5" Deep the SuperZero 2.0 is small. really small. Unlike most small speakers, which try to fool you with boomy, pseudo-bass from a port, the Super Zero 2.0's acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure skips the bass and focuses on making beautiful, lifelike midrange and high frequencies. Just like the original.

Magic Box - Build quality is stunning too. The compact, well-braced cabinet is naturally strong and stout.  Stronger than larger boxes.  As a result, it doesn’t have the to deal with the box vibrations that interfere with the critical midrange performance of its big-boy counterparts. The speaker's narrow front face is almost all speaker, so there's no wide baffle to interfere and interact with the Super Zero 2.0's output.  

Better - No mere re-make, the SuperZero 2.0 makes some subtle improvements to the original Super Zero design. Specifically, we found that if we added an itsy-bitsy coil of wire to the crossover in just the right place we could make the tweeter roll off a bit faster (12dB/oct), effectively blocking more of the bass that tries to sneak into the tweeter without negatively impacting its response. This small crossover change significantly lowers the tweeter's distortion, improves power handling, and makes the lil’ bugger sound even better than the original.

In-Side – The SuperZero sports a 4.5” long throw pulp cone woofer and a 1” silk dome tweeter.  As mentioned above it features a 2nd order crossover (12 dB/octave) for both the midrange and tweeter.

Absolute Zero Bookshelf Speaker (Black)

The Classic Absolute Zero is NHT's premium fourth generation version of the original NHT Zero mini-monitor released in 1989. In this latest version, we've managed to extend deep bass response and improve horizontal dispersion while maintaining the open and natural midrange for which all Zero models are known. The Classic Absolute Zero is a great choice for stereo, distributed audio and home theater systems. It goes without saying this speaker is in the NHT Classic Family of products, all designed to perfectly mate together in music and theater systems.  They are sold and packaged as singles so order 2 for a stereo pair and so on for other system combinations.

The Classic Absolute Zero, like most NHT speakers, is an acoustic suspension design (not ported or vented). It uses a long-throw 5.25” polypropylene cone midrange/woofer. The woofer frame was designed entirely in-house using F.E.A. (Finite Element Analysis) and is made using a proprietary BMC (bulk moulding compound) frame, which has the high strength and low resonance of a much more expensive cast magnesium alloy frame. The Absolute Zero uses a very sophisticated 1” aluminum dome tweeter in a tiny bezel that features a very small, yet powerful neodymium magnet. This small bezel allows us to position the tweeter and midrange drivers as close together as possible to get very even on and off axis response.

The Absolute Zero’s beautiful and curvaceous little cabinet made of very dense MDF (medium density fiberboard) material. It is extensively braced and cut to amazing precision by NHT's manufacturing partners using CNC lathes. It gets 7 layers of high gloss black or white paint, hand polished between each coat followed by 2 clear coats for long lasting beauty. 

What all this means is a lot of engineering and thought went into the Absolute Zero to ensure it's best of class performance includes tighter, deeper bass and wonderfully open midrange and crystal clear highs from a broad seating area.

Two Bookshelf Speaker (Black)

NHT’s first product was a 6.5" 2-way bookshelf speaker - the Model 1, with many similarities to the Two. We have always felt that a good 2-way design was hard to beat, particularly for music playback. The Classic Two continues that tradition. In this 5th generation version, we have managed to get additional half octave of bass extension, improved the soundstage and off-axis response, removed lots of distortion and diffraction and still kept the sweet and accurate midrange for which NHT speakers are known for.  

The Classic Two is a premium 2-way, acoustic suspension bookshelf speaker design. No ports or holes. Like all Classic Series speakers, we use air, nature's most perfect spring force to control the woofer motion - the reason for its clean midrange and low distortion. Its driver compliment is a custom designed 6.5” woofer and the same tweeter assembly used in the Absolute Zero - a remarkable 1" ferro-fluid cooled neodymium magnet marvel of engineering and production. The Classic Two uses a carefully engineered 2nd order crossover to divide the frequencies between the woofer and tweeter.  The system is magnetically shielded as we know there are a few TV's using CRTs still in service.

Connections are made in the back of the speaker via 2 all metal nickel-plated binding posts that will accept 10 guage bare wire, BFAs,  1" spaced dual banana connectors, single banana connectors or spade lugs with 1/4" spacing. The speaker comes with user applied feet - aluminum rails with a butyl rubber inserted in a center channel to keep them secure and quiet on a table top or shelf. We leave them off in shipping because the Classic Two's cabinet's curves look beautiful when wall or ceiling mounted without them - don't throw them away when unpacking the speakers.

Although we always recommend a subwoofer like the Classic B-10d or B-12d for home theater use, the Two has enough bass that a subwoofer is optional for most music playback in small to medium size rooms (orchestral/hip-hop/organ/bass freaks will need a high quality subwoofer. Like the Absolute Zero, the Classic Two enclosure is made with ¾” high-density fiberboard, re-enforced in several internal locations to eliminate any mechanical resonances. It’s finished with 2 primer layers, 7 color coats and 2 clear coats of black or white paint, hand-rubbed between coats. Sold and packaged individually.

Three Bookshelf Loudspeaker

The NHT Classic Three is the best bookshelf we’ve ever built and we've built quite a few over the last 22 years. The Three offers great bass response, close to 40Hz in room, plus wide-open, natural sounding mids and highs. While it’s a really good speaker for home theater, the Three is simply remarkable for music playback. 

Stereophile Magazine's Robert J. Reina said "At $800/pair, the Classic Three is a superb value, particularly for those listening rooms in which size and cosmetics are important but whose owners are reluctant to give up performance in bass definition and extension and in high-level dynamics." Soundstage's Sid Voola said "in some ways, I would be hard-pressed to discern the Classic Three’s performance from that of a similarly priced small floorstander. Not just another “me too” outdoor speaker, the O2 is a high performance NHT speaker that was designed to live outdoors. Because we know outside is where the parties happen, the O2 has been specifically engineered to play loud without complaint, and specially tuned to make deep bass outdoors. 

The magic of the O2 starts with its custom-designed drivers. The woofer features a durable poly cone and rubber surround so it can hold up to the elements, and is carefully gasketed to keep critters and moisture out. 

The same attention to detail has been applied to the specially treated, one-inch soft dome tweeter which was designed to sound great, and hold up to the sun and the weather at the same time.

Like all NHT speakers, the O2 is a sealed, acoustic suspension design so there are no ports or vents for bugs and moisture to get in. This sealed design also allows the O2 to produce deep, clean bass at very high levels with very low distortion.

Super 8 Powered Subwoofer for SuperZero

The new NHT Super8 subwoofer is perfect for use with any high quality compact speaker that's bass shy and is simply magical when used with the new SuperZero 2.0. Like all NHT subwoofers, the Super8 is great for both home theater and stereo music and delivering high-end deep bass performance without a high price tag. The Super 8 does many things for your system - takes the deep bass load off of your main speakers, so they play louder with lower distortion, helps your amplifier by handling the deep bass (your amp handles just the midrange and high frequencies) and properly adjustedthe Super 8 will blend seamlessly with your main speakers and disappear. 

Outside - The Super 8 powered subwoofer is a minuscule 11” cube - barely bigger than the 8” driver contained within. The Super 8 is a sealed system - has no holes or ports that can interact with its surroundings making it ok to put it wherever it fits in your space instead of the other way around. Inside - The same technology and processing power in the Super 8 powered subwoofer is used in our very best subwoofer, the B-12d. Start with a beefy, but efficient 300 watt amplifier throttled back to 110 ideal watts. This green amplifier converts most of the energy from the wall socket to sound, not heat. The real voodoo though is found in the dedicated DSP (digital signal processing) engine. The DSP dynamically controls the amplifier power, equalization, and filter functions - basically helps the Super 8 play super loud, go super deep and have super control and the DSP's built-in limiter and compressor even protect the woofer from killing itself when you go into party mode. The NHT B-10d subwoofer is a compact high-end subwoofer for home theater and music systems that says you're dead serious about good sound. It combines 23 years of speaker building know-how to deliver more bang for the buck than any NHT 10” sub we ever built.

Outside - The B-10d subwoofer is a tiny 12.6" cube – don’t let its size fool you; the B-10d packs a punch. The B-10d’s air suspension cabinet has no ports to interact with its surroundings so it’s ok to put it wherever it fits in your space. Aluminum leveling spikes are included to anchor the B-10d to carpeted floors and four aluminum floor protectors are included to slip the cones into to protect your hardwood floors. Like all NHT Classic speakers, the B-10d is wrapped in NHT’s 10-coat piano gloss black finish.

Inside - Start with 300 watts of really smart, efficient power. For the techies, it’s a BASH (Class D) amplifier with a switching power supply. Unlike traditional amplifiers, the B-10d’s super-efficient design converts most of the juice coming from your wall to bass, instead of heat so you can rock and stay green at the same time. The real voodoo is the B-10d's factory-programmed DSP (digital signal processing) engine. We use this DSP to control the phase-perfect crossovers, internal EQ, a sophisticated limiter, compressor and more. The woofer itself is a long-throw, pulp cone design with a butyl rubber surround. Both the cone and the massive motor structure it’s attached to were custom designed by NHT specifically for the B-10d. This driver creates some very high pressure inside the B-10d’s sealed box, so we lined the interior cabinet walls with a 1 mm thick sheet of aluminum to eliminate any ideas cabinet flex. The result is the B-10d subwoofer goes lower and plays louder with more control than any 10" sub we've ever built.

The new B-12d subwoofer is a compact high-end powered subwoofer for home theater and music systems that says you're dead serious about great sound. Everything we’ve learned in our 23 years of speaker building was crammed into the best twelve-inch sub we’ve ever built. 

Outside - The B-12d subwoofer is a compact 14" cube - barely bigger than the 12” driver contained within and packs a huge sonic punch. The B-12d is an air suspension design - no ports to interact with its surroundings. It can be placed wherever it fits in your room without sacrificing sound quality. Four aluminum leveling spikes are included to anchor the sub on carpeted floors, and 4 aluminum discs keep it from doing donuts on slippery floors. Like all NHT Classic speakers, the B-12d features NHT’s 10-coat piano gloss black finish. 

Inside - Start with 500 watts of really smart, efficient power. For the techies, we use a BASH PWM (Class D) amplifier with switching power supply. Unlike traditional amplifiers, the B-12d’s super-efficient design converts most of the juice coming from your AC outlet to bass, instead of wasting it as heat. The brains of the B-12d are in its factory-programmed DSP (digital signal processing) engine. The DSP controls the 24 db/octave phase-perfect adjustable low-pass filter, internal EQ, Boundary EQ, a sophisticated limiter, compressor and more. As a result the B-12d subwoofer goes lower, plays louder with better control than any 12" sub we've built.

The speaker itself is a long-throw, pulp cone design with a butyl rubber surround. The cone and the massive motor structure were custom designed by NHT specifically for the B-12d. This massive woofer creates high pressure inside the B-12d’s sealed enclosure, so we lined the interior walls with a 1 mm thick sheet of aluminum to eliminate any cabinet flex.

Absolute Center Channel Speaker

If you like the sound of the Absolute Zero and Classic Two, the Absolute Center is the center channel speaker for you! It can also be used as an L/C/R or in any application where high-fidelity, low distortion and a low profile are desired. We made the Absolute Center as small as we possibly could while matching the timbre, dynamics, and dispersion of other NHT Classic models.  

The Absolute Center may be our least expensive center channel, but the same amount of precision mechanical and acoustical engineering went into this design as into every other award-winning NHT Classic model. The Absolute Center is a perfect example of NHT's high-end, without high-price philosophy. 

The Absolute Center uses two 4.5 woofers and the same 1” aluminum dome tweeter with a  powerful neodymium magnet assembly and "wonder bar" cooling/mounting bar assembly we use in the Absolute Zero and Classic Two. The Wonder Bar secures the tweeter from the back of the cabinet, heat sinks (cools) the tweeter and allows for a minimal faceplate. This design allows us to tuck the tweeter tightly between the mid-range drivers which provides great horizontal dispersion, excellent articulation and high power handling. The Absolute Center is also magnetically shielded so placement next to that vintage CRT isn't a problem. 

Like all models in the NHT Classic line, the Absolute Center's cabinet is very robust, and uses ¾” wood substrate (MDF) for all surfaces, and dual internal braces. A hand-painted finish with 2 primer coats, 7 color coats and 2 clear coats producing a beautiful piano quality high-gloss, black finish. The Absolute Center comes with the Classic aluminum rails with a butyl rubber channel strip already attached.

TwoC Center Channel Speaker

3-way designs are important to home theater center speakers because their dispersion is very wide in both the horizontal and vertical planes. This means consistent tonality and good detail virtually anywhere the viewer is seated.  In addition to traditional center channel use, the 2C can be used as a left or right speaker when a low profile, low distortion solution is needed. The TwoC will always outperform bookshelf speakers turned sideways.

The TwoC is a 3-way, dual 5.25” woofer design with a proprietary .75” aluminum dome tweeter and 2” aluminum dome mid-range. The tweeter/midrange are built into a single compact module which is also used in the NHT Classic Three and Four.  The clustered drivers acoustically act as one providing very smooth response. Another benefit of the tweeter/midrange module is its low height allowing us to offer maximum performance in a very low profile cabinet.

The use of four drivers in the TwoC has another positive attribute: it reduces distortion caused by power compression because the load is spread over multiple drivers. 

The cabinet is internally braced to avoid cabinet resonances, and the TwoC is finished in NHT's luxurious  piano black high-gloss finish.  The Two C's are sold individually.

ThreeC Center Channel Speaker

OK, you’ve decided NHT’s Classic Three or Four’s are for you. Even more exciting is the fact that you’re going to place four of them around you along with a subwoofer and several hundred watts of power. Only one thing missing - the perfect center channel speaker. Enter the formidble and capable NHT Classic Three C. 

The ThreeC is a perfect sideways version of your beloved Three or Four with an extra 6.5” woofer to assure you will never have to think twice about the fact your bought one of the very best center channel speaker on the planet. Really. Period. Dot. 3-way designs are espically important to center speakers because their dispersion is very wide in both the horizontal and vertical planes. This means consistent tonality and good detail anywhere the viewer is seated. In addition to traditional center channel use, the ThreeC can be used as a left/center/right (LCR) speaker when a low profile solution is needed. 

Acoustic Suspension: Like most NHT speakers the Classic ThreeC is an Acoustic suspension design - no ports or holes in the cabinet. We use the air (natures most perfect spring) that is trapped in the cabinet to control and damp the woofer cone motion. Acoustic suspension system require not only specific design expertise but also tighter parts and materials tolerances. The benefits are well documented - smooth, natural midrange, low distortion, high power handling and smooth bass rolloff - an important benefit when blending speakers with subwoofers seamlessly.

One look at the iW4 and you know something serious is going on. The iW4 is our powerhouse architectural product. In a good installation, if you closed your eyes, you might think you were listening to a pair of Classic 3’s on stands. Outrageous dynamics, terrific bass, high output and yet it loses none of the detail.  The IW4 is the perfect in-wall home theater system speaker.  

The IW4 uses two 5.25” polypropylene woofers, a 2” aluminum dome midrange, and a .75” aluminum dome tweeter. This Tweeter-Midrange module is used in all 3-way Classic series designs. The midrange has its own internal chamber reducing comb filtering and improving detail. The advantage of a dual-woofer 3-way design is low distortion and wide dispersion, changing the sweet “spot” to a sweet “room” for listening.  

The IW4 is easily installed. iW4B brackets are included with every speaker and available separately for pre-construction location. The MDF wood baffle is removable separately if service is required.  Sold individually.
